Mount Saint Vincent University: The School of Unlearning
Mount Saint Vincent University (MSVU) is celebrating their 150th anniversary in 2023 but instead of patting themselves on the back or throwing a party, they wanted to develop a campaign that would help further their commitment to accessible education.
When we think of learning, we tend to see it as simply adding new knowledge. But it can be even more powerful to learn by subtracting old ways of thinking. What if we positioned MSVU as a school that demonstrates its commitment to equity, diversity, inclusion and access by demonstrating its commitment to unlearning? Unlearning gender biases. Unlearning racist behaviours. Unlearning what a classroom looks like. Unlearning, to move forward.
